Year 7 Camp

The Year 7 camp was an unforgettable experience filled with exciting activities, team challenges, and opportunities for personal growth.

Our Year 7 cohort attended a four-day camp at Harrietville in mid February staying at the Feathertop Chalet. Students participated in a wide range of outdoor and team-based activities that helped foster new friendships and build confidence as they embarked on their high school journey. These activities were led by our VET Sport and Recreation Unit 3/4 students, which gave the Year 7s a wonderful opportunity to learn from our senior students and form new friendships across year levels.

Throughout the camp, students were involved in a variety of activities that challenged them physically, mentally, and as part of a team.

One of the most thrilling activities was the giant swing.  Suspended 12 metres in the air, students had the chance to take turns launching the swing, which provided a rush of excitement and a sense of accomplishment. Many overcame their initial fears, building both courage and trust in their teammates who helped with the process.

The low ropes course challenged students to navigate through a series of obstacles that required balance, coordination, and communication. Students had to work together to safely complete the course, promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Students had the opportunity to try their hand at archery, learning to aim and shoot with precision. This activity not only required focus and patience but also encouraged friendly competition and skill development.

Exploring the beautiful surroundings of Harrietville on bikes was a fun and energizing experience. Students rode through scenic paths, enjoying the natural beauty of the area while learning important bike-riding skills and road safety.

The zip line was another popular activity. Soaring above the ground whilst having to attach their harness to the zip line themselves, it gave participants an exhilarating experience while offering a unique perspective of the camp’s environment.

Orienteering around the town of Harrietville was an adventure in navigation. Students used maps and compasses to find checkpoints, building their ability to read maps and work together as a group. This activity was both educational and fun, allowing students to bond as they explored the local area.

A fun-filled trivia night saw students test their knowledge on a variety of topics. Teams competed against each other, answering questions ranging from pop culture to general knowledge. The event encouraged students to think quickly and work cohesively with their groups.

A series of fast-paced and hilarious "Minute to Win It" challenges allowed students to engage in friendly competition. These quick, fun tasks required focus, creativity, and the ability to think on their feet, providing plenty of laughs and moments of teamwork.

The camp was structured around Connect groups, where students worked together as teams for most of the activities. These groups allowed for collaboration, communication, and problem-solving, which helped foster new friendships and strengthen relationships among peers. There was also time for relaxing and having fun playing a friendly game of backyard cricket, kicking the soccer ball, or playing beach volleyball with friends. By the end of the camp, students had not only built new connections but also learned to rely on each other, supporting one another through each challenge.

One of the most notable outcomes of the camp was the personal growth students experienced. Many stepped outside their comfort zones, facing fears such as heights on the giant swing or unfamiliar challenges on the low ropes course. The camp helped students develop resilience, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment.

Additionally, the camp was a fantastic opportunity for Year 7 students to bond with one another, making new friends and forming lasting connections. Whether they were laughing together during the trivia night or supporting each other on the bike trails, the camp laid a strong foundation for a positive and supportive school environment.

The camp experience will no doubt remain with students throughout their high school years and beyond, making it an unforgettable and valuable experience for all involved.
