Art Gallery - Year 6
A recap of Year 6 focus on Asian artCultural Prayer Flags
In Term 1, Year 6 students explored the cultural practice of Tibetan prayer flags. A prayer flag is a colourful panel or rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or send prayers carried by the wind. Prayer flags are decorated with symbols, prayers and mantras. Each colour has a particular significance - Blue (symbolising sky/space), White (symbolising air/wind/cloud), Red (symbolising fire), Green (symbolising water) and Yellow (symbolizing earth).
They developed skills using pen, ink and marbling inks to design and make their own prayer flag and personal mandala. Mandala is a sanskrit word that means circle. Mandalas are ancient spiritual and ritual symbols believed to represent the universe.
Please enjoy their beautiful, intricate designs.
